Unfortunately, our experience with Yoast SEO for Shopify has been extremely disappointing, and I would strongly advise other Shopify merchants to be very careful before allowing the app to make any changes to their themes. In our case, the Yoast app injected/modified code in our Shopify themes, and the result was actual front-end changes affecting what our customers see. Mistakes can happen with any app. What I find completely unacceptable is what happened afterwards. Despite Yoast being responsible for the changes, they were unable to properly restore our theme to the state it was in before their app modified it. Even more surprisingly, we were eventually asked to provide examples of what was still wrong. That left us in the absurd situation of having to identify the damage ourselves and help troubleshoot a problem caused by their app. When an app is allowed access to modify a live e-commerce theme, there is a significant responsibility attached to that access. If an update or code change causes problems, I expect the company behind the app to have the technical ability to identify exactly what their software changed and, most importantly, to restore those changes properly. That was not our experience with Yoast. I ultimately had to stop relying on their support, restore what I could myself, and involve our own developer to get the remaining issues resolved. So my warning to other Shopify store owners is simple: make a complete backup of your theme before allowing Yoast to update or modify anything. Do not assume that they will be able to restore your theme if something goes wrong. For an app that can make changes directly to a live Shopify storefront, I expected a much higher level of technical responsibility and support.
The app itself is fine. However, a bug in their latest version completely wiped our theme settings, which broke our site. This resulted in a revenue loss of over €5,000, and destabilized our Meta and Google Ads, which will lead to even further losses. Support just said they're sorry but can't do anything about it.

Would not touch this app with a bargepole after an automated updated wiped all my theme control settings on my website. Zero communication from Yoast, appalling "we'll get back to you in a couple of hours" response to help and no notification once they'd fixed it after receiving what must have been many thousands of similar complaints from those affected. Completely unacceptable. Deleted the app instantly and will not be reinstalling (not convinced its needed with Shopify's own SEO tools anyway). Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re genuinely sorry for the disruption and frustration caused by the recent Yoast SEO for Shopify update. You’re absolutely right to be disappointed. An update affecting your theme settings and, in turn, your business operations is serious. We also recognize that our communication and response time during the incident did not meet the standard you should expect from us. We’re especially sorry that you did not receive a clear notification once the issue had been resolved. Our development team identified the issue and has since fixed it. However, we understand that resolving the technical problem does not undo the impact it had on your store, your time, or your business. We sincerely regret that we let you down. We also noticed that you’ve been using Yoast SEO for Shopify since 2023, and we truly value the trust you’ve placed in us over that time. We’ve reached out to you directly by email so we can discuss what we can offer as compensation for the inconvenience and disruption you experienced. We completely understand your decision to remove the app. If, at some point, you decide to reconsider and use Yoast SEO for Shopify again, we would be grateful for the opportunity to regain your trust and provide you with the experience you should have received from us. Requires all update work to be done in CSV export...given Shopify issues with importing/exporting, that's a no-go. Also just get pushed documentation each time I ask a question. Yoast SEO for Shopify does not rely on Shopify’s native CSV system. The app provides its own CSV template for bulk edits, but bulk editing is optional. In most cases, we recommend a gradual approach, starting with your most important products and collections. Regarding your point about recommendations, the app does provide actionable guidance directly within each page. However, this depends on setting a focus keyphrase first. Without that, the app doesn’t know what you’re trying to optimize for, so it can’t generate scores or suggestions. Once this is in place, many merchants find the recommendations helpful as they guide improvements step by step. This isn’t something the tool can reliably decide automatically, as choosing the right keyword depends on your products and how you want customers to find you. In practice, fully automating this would often lead to poor or irrelevant targeting, which can negatively impact SEO results rather than improve them. Also, due to how Shopify works, this analysis runs in the browser and only after a keyphrase is added and the page is opened in the Yoast interface. That’s why pages may initially appear as “not analyzed.” Even before that, the app is still applying technical SEO improvements such as structured data, meta output, and indexing controls. We understand this may not match expectations if you’re looking for a fully automated solution. Yoast SEO is designed as a guided tool that supports you step by step, rather than fully automating decisions for you. We will also follow up with you directly to provide some additional context and clarification, which may help you decide whether the app is the right fit for your needs. Almost perfect but it is time consuming to always redo the search update by udpate. Why not make the search or filters hold once the product is updated??? Thank you so much for the 5-star review. When working through multiple products, that extra step can definitely add up. Fortunately, there are a couple of workarounds you can use. One option is to open products in separate browser tabs. This keeps your original filtered search results open and unchanged in the main tab, while each product opens in its own tab for optimization. Once you are done editing a product, save the changes, close that tab, and continue from your original filtered list without having to reapply the search or filters. Another option is to go directly to Shopify Admin → Products. There, you can use Shopify’s own filters to narrow down your product list first. After filtering, you can either open multiple products in new tabs from that list or select an individual product, click on More actions, and choose Optimize Yoast SEO for Shopify. This way, you can control filtering from Shopify and avoid losing your filtered view inside the app. We will also follow up with you via email with more precise guidance and screenshots to make everything even clearer. So far, my experience with Yoast on the Shopify Platform has been great. I was having a few issues with Structured Data and Sid gave me a detailed explanation to help me understand the flow between Yoast and my Review App, Judge me. We understand that there may have been some confusion around how the app works and how to uninstall it properly, so we’d like to clarify a few important points: No overwriting of data: Our app does not overwrite your existing meta titles, descriptions, or page-level schema stored in your Shopify store. That data remains intact and untouched. How output works: The app does override the output of SEO titles, and meta descriptions but again, it does not overwrite the original data. Initially, we mirror Shopify's SEO title and meta description values, using related snippet variables and following certain best practice templates using those variables. If, for any reason, you wish to change that, you can pick the variables you wish in our content settings, or leave those fields completely blank, and our app will pick up the details already set in Shopify. Uninstallation/revert process: Based on the details you shared here, we understand that you originally deleted the app without completing the two-step process (https://yoast.com/help/remove-yoast-code-from-theme-in-shopify/), which requires first deactivation of the app to remove our code from the theme and then deletion of the app from the Shopify admin. Fortunately, there is no need for time-consuming manual code removal (which we can do for you if requested) in this case, as this can be easily fixed with a simple reinstallation and uninstallation process. Here are the next troubleshooting steps to take: 1. Re-install the Yoast SEO app on your site (we see that you already followed this first step). 2. Instead of "Get a subscription," click on "Remove theme modifications.". Please wait until the process is finished. 3. Click on Go back to Apps and then remove the app again. Once this is done, the Yoast SEO code should be completely removed from your theme files, and the metadata output will be restored to what you had before. But you can always contact us for any clarifications or further assistance if needed. In all cases, we would like to see how we can help further on this matter, so our team will soon reach out via email. Lastly, we'd like to clarify that we have not responded earlier to your review, as systemically, Shopify reviews are visible within two days after being submitted.

First of all, this is a helpful app for SEO. Second, its customer service is fast and helpful. However, sometimes this app feels outdated. It offers AI features for SEO titles, meta descriptions, social titles, and social descriptions. But, strangely for 2025, these features are limited. If you work with large catalogs, the system will block this function after while which is annoying. This needs an immediate fix. It feels like working online in 2010, not 2025. The app also checks your product descriptions for many SEO issues you might not even consider, which is great. I wonder why this app, already using AI, cannot rewrite product titles and descriptions for best SEO practice. This would not be a huge leap. Many AI tools on the market already offer this functionality. So, my dear Yoast Tech Team, I would be happy if you could improve your app in this way. This could truly be a game changer. It could make your app a real SEO weapon.

That said, we do plan to introduce higher-tier plans with more generous limits, especially for power users like yourself. b) AI for Titles and Descriptions: You're absolutely right, AI Optimization and rewriting for your content is a natural next step. While this feature isn’t available yet, it is actively in development. Our goal is to deliver a solution that automates effectively while staying aligned with SEO best practices. c) False Warnings: We understand how disruptive these can be. In most cases, false flags occur when content is added from external editors or AI tools that include hidden formatting or code, affecting the functionality of our app. This is something we identified based on the last email you sent us, so our team will be reaching out to you via email shortly with more specific details and next steps. It's very good but be better. One problem I run into all the time is there is no search function. If I have a site with hundreds of pages I have to manually scroll through all the pages to find it. it wastes so much time. i just can't believe they didn't add a simple search function. and yes i mean pages, i realize there is a search function for products and collections, but no search function to search pages. when you build out local seo pages it's a pain to find them later

Our development team is actively monitoring this, and we will implement the feature as soon as Shopify adds support for it in their API. Don't use them. if you ever decide you would like to uninstall the app, all the work you did will be gone. All meta descriptions, titles, and the like will disappear leaving you a mess.fferent I want to change to a different SEO app and I'm too afraid to.

UPDATE: ALTHOUGH i STILL HAVE NO IDEA HOW THE APP WAS INSTALLED IN MY STORE A YEAR AFTER I UNINSTALLED IT, AND I UNKNOWINGLY PAID FOR THIS APP FOR 1 YEAR - YOAST CUSTOMER SERVICE DID REFUND ME FOR 1 MONTH OF THAT TIME. I am not sure what happened and how the app was 're-installed.' Their 'goodwill' refund of 1 month I do appreciate. i installed Yoast when I first started with Shopify. It did not help my shopify store in any way that I could identify - so I uninstalled it. When I uninstalled the app, payments were no longer being withdrawn from my account. Then, about a year later, Yoast was mysteriously installed again into my shopify store. I did NOT install this app. I was unknowingly paying for this app for almost a year ( partly my fault as i was not paying attention to my shopify bills closely) I was paying for nothing. I then uninstalled again and contacted Yoast. Yoast claims that they would not be able to install the app in my store without my permission.

First, we want to address a fundamental misunderstanding: Though our app offers some improvements out of the box and without needing to take manual actions on these, the most important parameters for improving your SEO are by optimizing content on a regular basis and performing careful keyword research. Without perseverance in SEO efforts and proper optimizations, it is not likely to achieve substantial SEO results. Regarding installation and charges, we'd like to make absolutely clear that an app installation through the Shopify app store cannot take place without the merchant's permission or specific code authorization. This is how the Shopify system works: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/apps/installing-apps#install-through-the-shopify-app-store When an app is installed, and as long it remains installed, Shopify's billing system will generate charges for it until the app is uninstalled: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/your-account/manage-billing/your-invoice/apps#subscriptions This applies to all subscription-based apps available in the Shopify App Store, as Shopify determines its billing system at its own discretion. A poor tool, I paid for a year so I utilize it properly for a year. But I didnot work. Even I am getting more results with a free version on my wordpress. Waste of money and a very expensive also

However, we want to address a fundamental misunderstanding: while the Yoast SEO for Shopify app is a tool that can help optimize your store for several SEO factors, it's important to remember that a green SEO score doesn't always guarantee top rankings or increased traffic. Even if everything is perfectly optimized, if that has been done for not the proper focus keywords or too competitive ones, the results can be underwhelming, and that is not related to our app's efficiency. In addition, there are several ranking factors, both on and off your website, that can impact your store's visibility and performance in search results, especially in a very competitive industry like the one you are in. A couple of these factors that are not related or affected by our app, is mobile performance and accessibility, where we noticed your store has significant room for improvement. When these factors are not optimized with related tools, then ranking and traffic can be affected, as best SEO results require a holistic approach.
