The app works well, but unless you are expecting to gain a lot of subscribers very quickly, it will be expensive, since there is no tier for small businesses. It is extremely costly, and we need to find another solution as it has already cost us a lot of money.

The app works ok, but the support is terrible. I'm not sure you can get support that isn't an AI bot. We have an issue with double shipping charges and I can't get anywhere near a fix which is beyond frustrating. Their support bot just sends me to a solution that literally states it won't fix my specific problem.

Thank you for taking the time to share this. I’m sorry for the frustration you’ve been dealing with, especially when you’re trying to resolve an issue with double shipping charges. Feeling like you can’t reach a real person only adds to the stress, and that’s not the experience we want for you. Currently having a poor experience trying to reach a salesperson to help with my pricing plan. I sent an email inquiry 7 days ago but no one has replied to me. I like the product but customer service seems to be going down which is frustrating.

Thanks for taking the time to share this feedback. I have been in touch with my team regarding your concerns. - Ty Bailey | VP of Services
We have been using recharge for quite some time now. The old pricing structure meant that they took a % of sales. The new pricing structure is still a % of sales plus an added monthly charge of £140 - this can quickly add up. The email for the price increase justified this with the addition of new features - OK, that seemed fine. The new features are at an EXTRA cost. I'm not sure what happened with this company but i feel this is unjustified. Maybe they were bought and the new owners thought they would ad these extra charges to recoup their initial investment as fast as possible. I will be leaving recharge very soon which is sad due to the great service i used to receive. I feel its a classic case of get customers by offering a good deal then sting them in the future by hiking prices. A sign of the times i'm afraid. If you are reading this and want to avoid paying these awful charges then check out Appstle. Their pricing seems fair and benefits both parties involved.

Not recommended. This app lacks a lot of standard features. It's expensive and difficult to use.
I was happy with ReCharge and I would continue with them but their price increasing to 99$ per month coming into effect in the new year is ridiculous. Sadly no options for smaller businesses and this simply seems like an attempt to increase their revenues. I look forward to switching to a competitor that is more reasonable and fair for smaller businesses. What an inconvenience!

Pros: - Responsive customer support (thanks Thomas) - Easy to migrate off Recharge, which you will need to do when you realise you have made the wrong choice Cons: - Expensive - Poor documentation - Clunky, slow and ugly UI for front end and backend users Use something else, there are apps out there that are as good but don't cost the world.

I have been using recharge for over 7 years and had very little need for help but when I did come up against a small problem, the issue was sorted (via back and forth email as I am not a high paying valued customer). Sadly, as a small business with a small customer base the latest price increase from $20USD a month to $99 USD a month will mean I will also have to cancel. Perhaps Recharge doesn't want small business anymore, that's why they are pricing so high. I tried to contact support, but never received a reply. I imagine they have been inundated with unhappy customers. I don't understand and can't see what features and benefits are there to value the 5x price increase. I'm truly disappointed, and very sad after being a loyal customer.

(We were on this platform more than 2 years) Recharge is a nice platform with a potential. The problem is that this solution make a lot of mistakes in case of creating orders with correct information. Constantly swaping SKUs, porduct names. Customer Dashboard is really hard to setup and keep it in design you want. Also if you want any changes like product swap or price change. The only option is to change it in the customer export, send it to hem, wait 5 days and hope it is correctly made (which wasnt in most cases). If the cost would be 1/10, i would be okay with that, but not in this case.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback on our product. Your insight has been passed along to the appropriate teams for future consideration in how we can continue to improve. - Ty | VP of Services
It's done about half of what I expected it to. I switched to it from Bold Subscriptions V1 which was pretty awful. I was thinking that since ReCharge was the market leader, it would be better, but it's just given me different problems. Many of our subscribers didn't make it over, there's a lot of duplication of subscriptions on the ones that came over, and generally I still don't think the portal aspect is working. Also, despite being natively within the Shopify checkout now, it does not work with Local Pickup and Local Delivery functionality.

This app didnt work on our site - i contact support and i had no response for a month. Not good enough when you are paying or a app.
Basically, the most important feature that is paying for the subscriptions does not work. If you add it to the chart it works, but if your clients choose to use the pay button they get an error. And they expect us to pay a developer in order to fix this. For us is like false advertising, since the app basically does not work properly.
This app is not user-friendly at all. You have to click a lot of buttons to get what you want. And I agree that many of their customer service don't understand their product at all. They simply provide links and ask you to read their instruciton.
We use the app since 9 months and run close to $100k per month over it. Technical support is very good. However, very disappointed with the way Recharge handles key account management. We have contacted account exec several times. No / hardly no answer. We complained. No answer. We requested change of account exec. No answer.
We have been using Recharge for over 2 years now. First of all and sadly, I guess this is still one of the better options out there. However, this app comes with some major UX issues which makes managing an subscription on the storefront such a pain for your customers. I reported this issues several times to the customer support but they don't seem to care: Issue #1: Editing subscriptions. If you sell multiple products like we do, your customers will create an subscription order consisting of several products. So far so good. Recharge will create an order in Shopify. However, here comes the tricky part. If a customer wants to edit his existing subscription, he has to edit EACH one of the products separately. Meaning, when a customer ordered 10 products he and wants to change next charge date, frequency or even cancel he will have to do that 10 times! Just think about it. They placed ONE order initially when they started their subscription (meaning they got all products delivered at the same time) but have to edit each product separately from then on. Makes no sense. We get complaints about this almost every day! You as a store owner can bulk edit all products but why can't the customer?! This is such a UX disaster. Please, Recharge. Make bulk editing possible on the storefront! 2/ Sold out products. If you have products that are out of stock occasionally, the real mess begins! This will basically freeze the complete subscription of the customer until the customers either deletes the product from their subscription OR the product is back in stock. The customer can basically do nothing with his subscription when there is an out of stock product. Usually, there is an option to skip deliveries for the customer. Sounds like the perfect option in this case, right? Nah. Customer can't do that when a product is out of stock because pretty much all functions are dead at that point. They can't even add new products to their subscription because one out of stock product. They will only get a default error message without even telling them what the issue is. And the best part: Even when they remove the out of stock product from their subscription the error message will still pop-up until Recharge retries the charge! You can set up how often Recharge should retry the charge in the settings. However, it is limited to 8 retries and then the subscription shuts down completely. This is why I have set up a retry every 4 days so that the subscription doesn't shut down after 8 days already. So even though the customer has already removed the out of stock product and solved the issue by himself he will still see the error message for 4 days (or whatever you have set up) and will have to wait until the retry. What happens in those cases? They will contact our customer support that our UX sucks and that they want to cancel everything. Why can't recharge retry at least everytime a subscription has been edited? This is an EASY trigger! Customers removes product (trigger), recharge retries, order goes through. Problem solved. I really hope Recharge is going to read this review and will do something about it. I know at least 10 store owners that have the exact same issues that I have. I really wish Recharge will be the app that it could be! Those issues would be real easy to solve but would have such a big positive impact on UX.
Support is very hit or miss. Was very responsive when trying to bring us on and get us installed, then just completely stopped responding once they started getting money from us. App is not user friendly if you have a lot of items in your store (1000+). A lot of the stuff you need to do in bulk you can only do at a max 100 products at a time (i.e, updating product subscription settings).
too pricey. not user friendly. and can’t be managed from shopify mobile app, nor mobile browser. what kind of app doesn’t work on mobile in 2021? it’s ridiculous
If you're only using ReCharge for the most basic of subscription needs, it is probably fine. But, heaven forbid you have to deal with their customer service. Nice enough people, but often it feels like they don't even read your question before referring you to some article that doesn't address it. I've been dealing with the same problem for nearly 2 months now, costing me countless hours of my own time and throwing fulfillment into disarray. So far, ReCharge has made the problem worse on multiple occasions by suggesting they've fixed everything, only for me to realize a week later that they didn't actually do anything.
We've been using ReCharge for the last year and a half and it does what it needs to do. Beyond that, it really falls short in a number of ways. External Checkout: All of your customers will be redirected to an outside checkout portal so capturing abandoned carts is impossible unless you want to pay for one of their "partner apps". We've been paying upwards of $200/month for ReCharge due to how much volume we do with them so to pay another $500+/month for an abandoned cart app (not kidding, look at the pricing for Carthook) is less than ideal. Address Change: If a customer changes their address by logging into their account in Shopify it DOES NOT change within Re-Charge. When you are dealing with as many memberships as we do, this became a MASSIVE issue. The time and effort it takes to double-check any address changes before shipping lead to many of our subscription products going to the wrong address and cost us a significant amount of money/lost customers. Like I stated earlier, it does basic subscriptions but there are some serious flaws with this app.
We attempted to use this app - and had problems with the installation process. Apparently the format we use with Shopify is such that a manual installation on their end was necessary. Which would have been great had we gotten a message to that effect. Instead we spent hours trying to troubleshoot the problem and figuring out if it had to do with having to set up another stripe payment system to work with Shopify - and not getting an answer to our questions (because they only work via e-mail). When they did get around to installing their app, they messed up the installation, so that when a potential customer was on our site, if they selected the subscription selection it made the pricing and the info for a one-time purchase disappear -you could no longer see anything on the site, and when you clicked the little button that had no information next to it - the one-time purchase information would reappear, but the icon and the information for the subscription selection would disappear. It's been just - kind of a bummer and a sinkhole of time has been spent on this app.
When you read the description you have one perspective, when you install its not the same. A few things they do not tell you. This may be a good solution if you have a custom developer but not out of the box integrated as they make it seem. 1) You can only use one subscription schedule, such as daily, weekly or monthly. I use Weekly and Monthly with Bold. 2) This solution requires that you DUPLICATE all your products thereby creating a dedicated item for your subscription - Bold does not! 3) Support is OK at best. They only provide support over email. I was migrating from an existing solution and as such, they claim to offer migration support. I filled out a form, was never contacted and had to inquire a few times about this before someone responded. When I finally got someone from migration, they sent instructions. They never provided any guidance or recommendations considering I came from another solution. 4) Also, this is NOT as integrated as claimed. It is basically a bolt on a standalone solution. Landing pages, etc are added on to the site versus the integrated solution you get BOLD. 5) Also they are very limited in the payment processors they support, only two options. Stripe is terrible and we use paypal but in order to use them, you have to have Braintree which has much higher interest rates than paypal even though they are a PayPal company. It benefits a company to ensure ALL your payment processing is done through one company. It surprises after reading this solution how my perspective was this was going to be an awesome solution. Not the case!
When the app works it is great. We liked it so much that we implemented it into our second Shopify store. But it is have become very unstable and unreliable. We are no longer to take new subscription orders over the phone because we either 1) have no access to our ReCharge account or 2) the ReCharge customer list from the wrong store appears. The only work-around we have is to close all browsers and restart our computers. If you have a lot of customer orders this App will not work for you. Customers are unable to edit or cancel their subscriptions from their accounts on any browswer or mobile device. We have to manually do this for them. Support is very friendly & responsive but they give us the same excuses as to why their product doesn't work and do not follow through on promises to fix these major issues.
Good app, but I can't figure how to add a product except one at a time. I have requested help 2x and no response.
